Get an Improved Smile From a Cosmetic Dentist

A cosmetic dentist provides several treatments that can give teeth a makeover. Those looking to improve the appearance and restore full functionality to the teeth have multiple options available, depending on the condition of the teeth and one’s general oral health. Appearance can have a significant impact on one’s self-confidence, and a teeth makeover is one way to remove insecurities about one’s smile. Whether the problem is tooth loss or there are concerns with discoloration and staining, cosmetic dentistry can help.

Know the options

By knowing the treatment options available for a specific condition, a patient can make an informed decision on an effective makeover strategy. Keep in mind that it will take consulting with a dentist to know if a particular solution is a good option, as the condition the mouth is in could impact makeover opportunities. The time associated with achieving the desired results and the invasiveness of the procedure are other factors patients should consider.

Dental bonding

Bonding is one of the more convenient makeover options because in some cases, it can be done as little as one visit. In this treatment, a filling material is used to address minor imperfections like chips or cracks. Bonding does not have the longevity of dental crowns or veneers, but patients usually experience several years of use before needing to be replaced or repaired.

Bonding is a popular procedure for multiple reasons. It is a relatively simple procedure, it can often be accomplished in less than an hour, and it is less expensive than some of the other options.

Teeth whitening

Many people look for over-the-counter whitening solutions, as teeth that are discolored or stained can impact one’s self-confidence and sabotage a beautiful smile. Though these OTC options might be inexpensive, they do not provide the same results and durability as having whitening done by a cosmetic dentist. The process is still affordable, but having it done professionally ensures the safety of the patients and the effectiveness of the treatment.

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic procedure, as it is simple and relatively inexpensive. The process takes only about an hour in the dentist's chair, and the professional results can last for more than a year with the proper care.

Straightening

Crooked teeth are a concern for many because of the impact on appearance and the discomfort that can be present when eating. Traditional braces are typically seen on younger patients, such as during the adolescent or young adult years. While effective, older individuals may find that clear aligners are a more subtle option for straightening crooked teeth over metal wires and brackets. Either option can produce a more uniform smile, and straightening can be combined with other cosmetic treatments to produce a smile the patient can be confident in.

The total time it takes to straighten teeth varies from one person to another. Clear aligners are generally recommended for minor misalignments, and results may occur in less than a year. A cosmetic dentist may recommend traditional braces for those with significantly crooked teeth, and results may take up to a couple of years or more.

Porcelain veneers

These solutions are similar to dental bonding because they can address minor imperfections. Teeth that are uneven in length, have minor gaps, are chipped or worn, or are discolored can be transformed through veneers. In this treatment, wafer-thin sheets of porcelain that are colored to match the natural tones of the teeth are bonded to the front surface of the teeth.

Although veneers produce similar results as bonding does, it is an irreversible procedure because the dentist needs to remove some of the tooth's enamel to attach the porcelain sheets. This procedure often requires at least two visits, but the results often last for at least 10 years.

Dental implants

Tooth loss can be addressed with dental implants, though it is one of the more invasive treatments over bridges and dentures. Implants can restore the function, feel, and look of natural teeth. These are titanium posts that are implanted into the jaw to provide a steady base for a fabricated, natural-looking tooth replacement.

The implant procedure requires multiple steps as well as healing time. Results often take eight to 12 months, but they usually last a lifetime.

Conclusion

If someone is not happy with his or her smile, there are various options that can improve it. A smile makeover may only be a few treatments away. Schedule a consultation with a cosmetic dentist to find out which solution will be effective in transforming a smile.
